The interactive Black Sea Quest for kids at the Black Sea Day, Ukraine
- October 30, 2023
On the eve of the Black Sea Day, school children of Odesa and Odesa Oblast got a chance to show their knowledge of the Black Sea and its inhabitants and problems at a special interactive quest. It included four thematic stations:
🔹“Black Sea mind”: the questions on knowledge of the Black Sea geography, marine litter distribution and peculiarities of the lifestyle of cetaceans;
🔹“Black Sea moves”: the tasks to show a marine inhabitant without words, to find and identify the marine species and to differ between local and invasive species;
🔹“Me for the Sea and the Planet”: tasks to develop own action plan on how to help our Black Sea, to develop the wishes for it and to care about the Planet;
🔹“My Black Sea” – artistic task: development of an art item based on the marine stone; and answering short test about the life of marine animals.
In total, 11 teams (56 kids) during 2 hours have been learning in an interactive way about our Sea. In the end, they all got useful presents (cups, cutlery, water bottles), funded by the Project which will reduce the use of the relevant single time in use items.
Teachers also appreciated this event and asked to replicate this quest further with more participants.
We are very grateful to the club of young naturalists “Afalina” and the Ukrainian Center of the Ecology of the Sea for supporting us in this quest.
