Do you remember the Black Sea marathon, we held this summer? We are very happy to tell you that teachers and NGOs decided to replicate this marathon, in this way involving more and more kids into the discovery of the Black Sea.

Following EU4EMBLAS example, the eco-educators of the National Nature Park “Tuzly Lyman” held a two-week quest marathon “Black Sea Diversity”. It gathered kids from 21 schools bordering the territory of the Park.

The marathon started on October 13. About a hundred participants registered for it. More than 70 schoolchildren completed the tasks. The kids represented schools from different localities: Rybalske, Lyman, Hlyboke, Diviziya, Zhovtyi Yar, Tuzly, Vyshneve, Moloda, Borisivka, Tatarbunary, Bilhorod, Dniester district, and young scouts from Odesa.

Every day in the telegram channel, the participants received a task to complete within a day.

There were 15 tasks in total:

• Day 1 (13.10) – Introductory (familiarization with the marathon conditions, evaluation criteria, meeting the marathon participants). The task was to draw the Black Sea or its inhabitants.

• Day 2 (14.10) – Task: Develop a document – “Declaration on the Rights of Animals”.

• Day 3 (10/15) – Task: Find a Black Sea shell at home and indicate which mollusk it belongs to.

• Day 5 (10/17) – Task: Organize a cleanup near a river, pond or sea.

• Day 6 (10/18) – Assignment: make a silent movie about the sea and its inhabitants to show that silence is important.

• Day 7 (10/19) – Assignment: Choose a bird that lives near the Black Sea coast, find out where it flies to and draw a map with its path.

• Day 8 (10/20) – Task: Write down the rules you need to follow when you come to the Black Sea coast.

• Day 9 (10/21) – Task: Conduct a meditation with the Black Sea jellyfish and describe your feelings.

• Day 10 (10/22) – Assignment: Conduct an experiment at home – prepare the Black and Mediterranean Seas waters.

• Day 11 (10/23) – Assignment: Remember one of the most interesting fish species and write a story about why this species is unique.

• Day 14 (10/26) – Task: Write down an appeal to the Black Sea with a promise to do everything you can to protect it and make it quiet and safe.

• Day 15 (10/27) – Task: final exam.

Thanks to these tasks, the participants have learned much more about the sea, its diversity, safety, and demonstrated their own erudition and creativity.
