Kolkheti National park. 5 June 2024 – at the World Environmental Protection Day high school students from seven public schools across Anaklia, Batumi, Bobokvati, Gonio, Kobuleti, and Poti travelled to the Paliastomi lake to learn more about its diversity and the coastal diversity in general. A special lecture on the biodiversity of Lake Paliastomi and its impact on marine biodiversity was conducted for schoolchildren in the conference hall of the Kolkheti National Park.

A special attention was devoted to the discussion of the intermediary results of the dolphins monitoring by kids initiated in April. Read more about here.

In the end of the event, the kids got a great opportunity to travel by the lake using the boats and to make unique photos of its biodiversity.

“Such field excursions support young understanding about the fragile ecosystems, interconnected species and life in coastal zones. It inspires the kids participating in it, to work even harder to be a real Black Sea researcher”, – Ramaz Mikeladze, coordinator of the event mentioned.

This event is a part of the large educational campaign “Become a Black Sea researcher” which started in April 2024 with the involvement of kids into the dolphins’ monitoring and will culminate at the Black Sea Day.

This exciting educational initiative is organised by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the National Environment Agency of Georgia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. It falls under the EU/UNDP regional project ‘European Union for Improving Environmental Monitoring in the Black Sea’ (EU4EMBLAS), a joint initiative with the governments of Georgia and Ukraine.
