“Release your own fish” – fish stocking on the Paleostomi lake jointly with the youth

On 6^th of July, 2024 the fish stocking of Lake Paleostomi was carried out. A total of 20,000 carp fry weighing 5 grams each were successfully released by Georgian youth. Namely, representatives of school No. 4 in Poti, Bobokvati School and Batumi School “Euro 2000” took part in the event.

The event contributes to the restoration of the carp population, which will strengthen the whole food chain of the lake, including wetland birds. In addition to its ecological value, the action has fishing and tourism-recreational value.

It also has positive public awareness results for the young generation. Its main goal is to involve kids into restoration of the natural ecosystem of the lake. The kids were very happy and enthusiastic about the released fish, as such practical actions create a strong tie between people and the nature.

The event was organized by the EU4 Emblas project, with the support of the Protected Areas Agency and the Administration of the Colchid National Park.

This event is a part of the large educational campaign “Become a Black Sea researcher” which started in April 2024 with the involvement of kids into the dolphins monitoring and will culminate at the Black Sea.
