A large beach clean up was held in Prymoske, Ukraine
- September 15, 2024
In the eve of the Clean Beach Day, on 14th of September 2024 a large cleanup of the Black Sea coast took place in Prymorske, Ukraine.
It is worth noting that Prymorske was the only settlement except Odesa whose beaches are officially open for the tourists this year. That envisaged the mine danger check by the emergency services. As far as most of the coastal settlements in Ukraine did not manage to get their beaches checked for security or just are located too close to the military operations, most of the tourists went to Odesa and Prymorske this year, causing a large pressure on the marine ecosystems there.
This led to large number of the litter (plastic bottles, packs etc) left at the beaches of Prymorske.
EU4EMBLAS project jointly with Budjak resort arranged a large campaign involving kids, teachers, parents, communal services explaining of the danger of marine litter for Black Sea ecosystems.
After this, the whole group of around 40 people cleaned the beach. Around 1,2 tons of marine waste was collected and further disposed at the local landfill.
In the end, all the participants got certificates and small presents, and the community got 2 sets of the containers for the separate waste collection, which will be used in the local school and the village council. But the main beneficiary of the action was the Black Sea, as it became a bit cleaner.
