The Black Sea awareness day for Odesa youth, Black Sea Day in Ukraine

In the eve of the International Black Sea Day, on 30 October 2024, a large educational event “Black Sea quiz” was held on the basis of Odesa Lyceum No. 40.

The event was held under the patronage of the EU-UNDP funded project EU4EMBLAS. The event united 10 teams (5 kids each) from different educational institutions of Odesa, in total 50 participants and their teachers.

The quiz consisted of several parts:

• Homework: the teams made presentations about one of the marine inhabitants of the Black Sea;

• an intellectual game for the smartest “Who lives in our sea?”

• Presentation of the newly published book “My friend the Black Sea”

• Following the presentation and the competition

Based on the results of the teams’ performances and answers, the winners were determined. According to the results: the first place was taken by the team of Odesa Lyceum No. 40 ‘Dolphins’. They received the main prize – a certificate for UAH 3000; second place – the team ‘Shrimp’ of Odesa Pedagogical College, they received a certificate for UAH 2000; third place – the team ‘Aurelia’ team of Odesa Gymnasium No. 48, they got a certificate for UAH 1000.

All teams received the beautiful book “My friend the Black Sea” as a gift, a set of picturesque postcards about the Black Sea, gift souvenirs (flashlights) from the EU4EMBLAS project. Team captains received T-shirts from the environmental organisation Rewilding Ukraine, and all participants received stickers.

But what is the most important the kids got opportunity to present their knowledge about the Black Sea and to deepen it by learning from each other.
