- June 08, 2025
This year EU4EMBLAS project continued a successful public awareness campaign “Become a marine researcher” in Georgia.
On June 8, 2025, at the International Ocean Day, a special event devoted to scientific assessment of the state of the Black Sea jointly with kids was held.
8 schools from coastal cities of Georgia participated in the event: Poti N4 public school, Batumi private school “Progress”, Batumi private school “Gorda”, Kobuleti N6 public school, Bobokvati public school, Batumi private school “Euro 2000”, Batumi N2 public school, Public school of Anaklia.
The participants went out to the open sea on the vessel “Natalia” and with the help of scientific consultants took samples for analysis of the main hydrobiological parameters for assessing the ecological status (phytoplankton, zooplankton and benthos). A corresponding lecture on this topic was held at sea. The samples were then processed together with the participants of the campaign in the National Environmental Agency’s laboratory.
In conclusion, a lecture on conducting scientific work at sea was held in the conference hall.
A lunch was organized for all participants in the office.
The event was very successful. The participants were very pleased. “You should see with what interest kids study and join in the work. I think in the future this will have a very positive effect on them in the formation of their profession and simply their personality,” – Ramaz Mikeladze, project expert and organizer of the event mentioned.
