Clean Beach Day in Georgia: studying marine litter after the storm

  • September 22, 2025

On September 22, representatives of the different schools of the Georgian coast gathered to act at the Clean Beach Day, as it is a good tradition for them since 2017.

Prior to this day, strong winds and storms led to the disposal of enormous amount of the marine litter in debris at the beaches. The EU4EMBLAS project had to adjust the event schedule for safety reasons. Instead of clean-up it took advantage of the opportunity to familiarize children with consequences of a storm and relevant marine litter at the Batumi beach.

The kids studied about the morphology of the marine litter. Besides they got a lot of new information learning about:

•  how to assess the level of marine pollution (conducted in the National Environmental Agency premises)

•  the impact of pollution on dolphins (conducted in the dolphinarium).

As home tasks the schools will need to record a video about the amount of marine litter in debris and make an own clean up when the safety situation will allow for this. The best videos will be awarded to raise awareness about the significance of the marine litter pollution.
